Welfare Right & Tenancy Sustainment Officer

  • Salary: £32,850 - £36,071
  • Hours: 35 hours per week
  • Grade: EVH Grade 7
  • Contract: Fixed term until January 2023
  • Closing Date: 19 September 2019

Cernach Housing Association is a successful and well performing community-based registered social landlord (RSL) operating in the Drumchapel area in north west Glasgow since 1991.  We own 793 homes with another 84 currently on site or planned and we provide a management service to 17 sharing owners and 140 homeowners.  We act as community anchor organisation for Drumchapel and share Director and Technical Manager services with neighbouring Drumchapel Housing Co-operative under the terms of a Co-operation Agreement.  Our turnover is £3.6 million, the major part of which comes from rental income.

To help our tenants face the challenges posed by the Government’s programme of reform to the welfare benefits system and the prevalence of short-term and/or zero-hours employment contracts, the Management Committee has decided to seek to recruit a suitably experienced and driven individual to join our team as a Welfare Rights & Tenancy Sustainment Officer.  The post will initially be until 31 January 2023.

The successful candidate will have a proven track record in the field of welfare benefits, with a detailed knowledge of the welfare benefits system and direct experience of debt advice.  They will be passionate about helping people maximise their benefits (and other income) to which they are entitled and will have a track record of proactive campaigning to help achieve this.  They will have the ability to work on their own initiative, often managing competing priorities.  Also will have the ability to take ownership of an issue and find solutions to complex problems.

Reporting to the Senior Housing Officer, the WRTSO will be a member of our highly successful housing management team.

Applicants should note that, due to the nature of this post, regular evening and occasional weekend work will be required.
